Walter Martin Walt Witkowski, 74 of New York passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020 in New York due to complications of COVID-19.

Walt was the middle brother of three brothers, all born in Brooklyn, New York; his birthdate was June 2, 1945. Their Mom and Dad, John and Mary (Gregonis) Witkowski were both from Shenandoah to where they returned after they retired. However, Walt remained in New York his entire life. He graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn in 1961.

Walt held a number of different jobs. Those jobs included administering hearing tests to elementary school children, working for Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising in building maintenance and providing security and maintenance for a neighboring condominium complex. He was hard working and rarely missed a day of work. He was a member of New Yorks Army National Guard for 6 years.

Walt really enjoyed watching and playing sports. He was a big New York Mets and New York Giants fan. His Catholic faith was important to him and he always maintained an abiding faith and hope in God.

Walt never married. For the last forty years he resided in Queens, New York; however, due to health problems, for the last 3 ½ years of that time he was living in Rego Park Health Care where he recently contracted COVID-19. He was taken to Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital where he passed two days later.

Beloved brother, uncle who was also known as Uncle Wally and friend, Walt was a good, honest, happy-go-lucky guy. He was well-liked by everyone who knew him and he will be dearly remembered and sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (Gregonis) Witkowski from Shenandoah.

He is survived by his two brothers, John (Cherie) Witkowski of Anaheim, California and Tom (Carol) Witkowski of Frackville. He also leaves behind one nephew, Mike (Tina) Witkowski and seven nieces, Joyce (Rick) Brandon, Elizabeth Mauldin, Anna (Shawn) Douphner, Teresa (David) Kilbourne, Clorinda (Will) Stecher, Mary Walker, Anne (Iman) Shamsian; as well as several great-nephews and great-nieces and one great-grandnephew and four great-grandnieces.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Divine Mercy Church, Shenandoah with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Casimirs Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
