Valerie Val (Yogis) Blewis, age 92 of Rush Twp, Hometown passed away Tuesday evening at Hazleton General Hospital. Her late husband, Joseph J. Blewis who died in 1984 was a prominent jeweler, he owned and operated the former Blewis Jewelry Store in Shenandoah.

Born in Shenandoah on December 31, 1918, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna (Alex) Yogis.

Val was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah and Jersey City School of Nursing.

As a dedicated Registered Nurse, Val had worked for the former Locust Mountain State General Hospital, Shenandoah Heights. Earlier she had worked in the New York City and Washington, DC areas.

She was a former member of St. Georges Church, Shenandoah.

Upon retirement, Val was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her caregivers, her daughter Joan V. Cox and her husband, Barry at home; a son, Robert J. Blewis and his wife Gale and their daughter, Vals granddaughter, Dayna Alexandra Blewis all of Annandale, VA; nieces and nephews.

Funeral and Prayer Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. There will be no calling hours on Friday evening.
