Obituary

Susan E. (Walker) Aponick, 74 of Mahanoy City formerly of Shenandoah passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 15, 2021 at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Shenandoah on January 28, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Elsie (Freeman) Walker. Sue was a 1965 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah. Earlier in life, she was employed for over twenty-two years at the former City Shirt Factory, Mahanoy City and Frackville. She was currently employed as a CNA in home health care for America's Home Health Services, Pottsville and prior to that for Addus Homecare for twenty years. Sue was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mahanoy City. Prior to that, she was a very devout and active member of the former First United Methodist Church, Shenandoah having volunteered much time for annual Easter egg project, food sales, suppers and any other functions that were held. She was a believer in family and treasured the time that she spent with them. She enjoyed word searches and puzzles and was an animal lover, especially cats. Surviving are her brother, Clayton Walker and his wife Mary Ann of Mahanoy City who were her caregivers and were always there for her and took her to all of her appointments and attended to her needs; her brother, Frank Walker and his wife Lillian of New Jersey; two sisters, Ruth Holden of Shenandoah and Grace Schuyler of Drums; great nieces, Aubrey and Emma Walker who she loved dearly; nieces, nephews and their families; and her beloved cat, Jinglebell Baby. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband, Wasil Aponick; three sisters, Margaret Ann "Muggs" Walker, RN, Shirley Gottshall and Edith Lipiec; and one step-daughter, Sally Ann Aponick. Religious services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10:00 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah with Pastor Bruni Martinez officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellow's Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A viewing will be held on Saturday morning from 8:00 am until 10:00 am at the funeral home. Face masks are recommended.
