Obituary

Stephen J. Sonny Olock, 78 of Shenandoah passed away Tuesday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street, Pottsville.

Born in Morea on December 3, 1935, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna (Katchmaric) Olock.

He was a graduate of the former Mahanoy Township High School.

Steve was a decorated Marine Corps veteran during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal & the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a self-employed carpenter operating Olock Realty, Shenandoah. Later he worked for many years as the Director of Public Works for Schuylkill County until his retirement.

Steve was always willing to lend his carpentry expertise to his family, good friends and the community. He liked hunting and fishing and thoroughly enjoyed hard shell crabs.

Mr. Olock was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Shenandoah and was an active member and trustee of the Defender Hose Company, Turkey Run. He was a life member of the Good Will Hose Company No. 1, Frackville and also held membership in the Frackville Elks Lodge.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife, the former Mary C. Amato on February 3, 2002; five sisters, Florence Olock, Kathryn I. Koznecki, Mary Fulmer, Theresa Davis and Josephine J. Werbitski.

Surviving are one stepson, Ralph A. Guida and his wife Dee (Grow) Guida of Enola; one sister, Irene Hower of Temple. He was Pop Steve to Mark Guida and his wife Lauren of Oxnard, California and to Rene and Nicholas Guida both of Enola. Nieces, nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 10:30 AM from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville..

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Turkey Run Defender Hose Company, 300 Furnace St., Shenandoah, PA 17976.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah is in charge of the arrangements.
