Ronald R. Smith, 89 of Frackville formerly of Shenandoah passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.
Born in Mahanoy City on December 24, 1932, he was a son of the late James Smith, Sr. and Alice (Thomas) Smith.
He was a graduate of the former Mahanoy City High School.
Mr. Smith was a decorated Army veteran having served his country in the Korean War. He received the Army of Occupation Medal with the German clasp, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a press operator for the former Dana Corporation, Reading.
Ronnie was a member of the former Primitive Methodist Church, Shenandoah. He was an avid reader and was a very active member of the former Shenandoah Amvets Post.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife, Nadine (Oliver) Smith in 1987, his step-son, Thomas J. "Buddy" Bachike in 2020; granddaughter, Christina M. "Tina" (Bachike) Sass in 2017; brother, James Smith, Sr.; sister, Alice Capiga and nephew, John Capiga.
Surviving are his daughter-in-law and caregiver, Mary Lou Bachike of Frackville; great-grandson, Joseph "JJ" Sass and his wife Cristina and great great-grandson, George Kingston Sass all of Naples, FL; niece, Karen Schropp; two nephews, James Capiga and James Smith, Jr.; three great-nephews, John Schropp, Dave Smith and James "Butch" Smith; great-niece, Allison Loosli; cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 11:00 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah with Rev. Julian Milewski officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A viewing will be held on Tuesday morning from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home.
