Ronald Bernhard, 89, of Shenandoah Heights, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, December 26, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown. Born in Shenandoah on September 9, 1933, he was the son of the late George and Ann (Powell) Bernhard. He was a 1951 graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School. Mr. Bernhard was a proud and decorated Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He received the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Ronald worked at Purolator Filters for the majority of his life, first in Allentown, then in Ringtown. Prior to his retirement, he worked at The Merchants Bank in Shenandoah. He was married to the former Margaret L. (Howells) Bernhard on July 11, 1959 at The First Baptist Church, Shenandoah. They remained married for 58 years until her passing on December 6, 2017. Ronald was a member of the First Baptist Church, the board of directors I.O.O.F Lodge 591, and the Rescue Hook and Ladder Company where he served as chief engineer for over 40 years, all of Shenandoah. He was also a member of the F. & A.M. Pulaski Lodge 216 of Pottsville. He thoroughly enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing, which he participated in until the passing of his brother, John, in 2015. Surviving are two children, Ronald and his wife Lisa of Catawissa and Nancy and her partner Tedd Stoudt of Schnecksville; six grandchildren, Casey, Colt, Colby and Cage Bernhard, Kayla wife of Alex Masullo of Farmington, NY and Thomas Toborowski and his wife Karlena of Minersville; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Rae Toborowski; nieces and nephews and their families, and many friends. A viewing will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin Street, Shenandoah. Religious services will immediately follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Adam Miller of the Kulp United Methodist Church officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
