Richard Yarnitsky, 68, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully early Friday morning at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Shenandoah, August 13, 1950, he was a son of the late Frank and Lorraine J. Stefanski Yarnitsky.

Rich was a 1968 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah, and a 1969 graduate of the Computer Educational Institute, Philadelphia, where he received his degree in data processing.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry as a computer operations supervisor.

"Pop Yarnit" enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, Bryden and Kadence. He also enjoyed visiting the casinos and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his brother, Theodore "Ted" Yarnitsky, in 2014.

Surviving are his son, Rick Yarnitsky and his wife, Heather, Ringtown; his two grandchildren, Bryden and Kadence Yarnitsky; his sister, Rita Karas and her husband, John, Ringtown; nieces and nephews, Angie Yarnitsky, Harrisburg, Stephanie Evans, Hometown, John Karas and his wife, Cherie, Bloomsburg, and Jaime Bayzick and her husband, Brian, Chalfont; a cousin who was more like a brother, Stanley A. Stefanski, Harrisburg; cousins and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Casimir Church, 229 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah, the sacred worship site of Divine Mercy Parish. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A visitation will be held from 9 until 10 a.m. Monday in St. Casimir's Church, Shenandoah.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
