Raymond P. "Ray" Karpovich, 86 of Shenandoah passed away early Saturday morning, April 15, 2023 at Broad Mountain Health & Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.
Born in Shenandoah on March 25, 1937, he was a son of the late Albert J. and Cecelia (Cichucki) Karpovich.
Ray was a graduate of the former Immaculate Heart Academy, Fountain Springs.
Mr. Karpovich was a decorated Marine Corps veteran having received the Good Conduct Medal first and second class awards.
He was a skilled and talented self-employed carpenter and plumber.
Ray was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah and the former Saint Stanislaus Church and was also a member of the Divine Mercy Parish Prayer Group. He was active with many parish activities and always volunteered his time with the annual bazaars and food sales. Ray often offered his carpentry expertise to make repairs and maintain the parish properties. He also shared his talents doing projects and jobs for his family, friends and even strangers. Ray will be long remembered for his holiday train platform displays, a hobby that he enjoyed and showing to others. Above all else, Ray was devoted to and cherished his family especially his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, always offering them wise advice.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife of fifty-four years, the former Dorothy A. "Dot" Majewski on January 3, 2014; three brothers, Albert, Robert and Lawrence Karpovich.
Surviving are his son, David Karpovich of Shenandoah; two daughters, Karen Kufro and her husband Gary of Shenandoah Heights and Donna Kalenkoski and her husband Francis of Shenandoah; six grandchildren, Stephanie Parry, Amanda Kalenkoski, Kristen Kufro, and Ashley, Kevin, and Kaitlyn Karpovich; one great-granddaughter, Skyla Parry; five brothers, Theodore, Francis, Carl, Bernard and Terrance Karpovich; one sister, Bernadine Seritsky; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 10:00 am in Divine Mercy Church, 232 West Cherry Street, Shenandoah with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A visitation will be held at the Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Home, 132 South Jardin Street, Shenandoah on Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday morning from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
