Obituary

Patricia E. (Piekarsky) Wargo, 81, of Weston Place, Shenandoah, passed away December 1, 2020 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill East Norwegian Street, Pottsville. Born on June 12, 1939, she was the beloved daughter of the late Mary (Merchlinsky) Sherkness and the late Walter Piekarsky. Patricia was also deeply loved by her late step-father, Joseph Sherkness. She was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah. She worked at former Alma Dress Factory and also as a home health aide. She was a member of Divine Mercy Church formerly St. George's. She married the love of her life, the late Michael J. Wargo. They shared many lovingly beautiful decades together before he was taken all too soon almost two decades ago. Patricia loved and was loved by Michael's family. Patricia's children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her beloved son, Joseph M. Curtis sadly preceded her in death. She is survived by her beloved daughter Deborah (Curtis) Vasel and beloved grandchildren Nathan and Laura Vasel who affectionately called her "Grammy". Patricia is also survived by three brothers-in-law, Monsignor Robert J. Wargo, pastor of the St. Joseph the Worker Church, Steve Wargo, Mahanoy City, Richard Wargo, Shenandoah; three sisters-in-law Jean Phillips, Nipomo, CA, Anna Kawa, Williamsport, and Julie Dee, Yonkers, NY, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was compassionate and caring. Neighbors would seek her out for care of animals. She intuitively knew what was needed. Patricia was always there for her family. She made herself available to help with care of loved ones and also the needs of neighbors and friends. Often said about her was that she never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She also didn't allow unkind things to be said about others in her presence. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:00 am in Divine Mercy Church, 232 West Cherry Street, Shenandoah with Monsignor Robert J. Wargo as the celebrant. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning, June 26, 2021 at the church from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. All state and federal COVID-19 guidelines and regulations, if any required at the time, will be observed. Interment in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery will follow the mass.
