Michael Wargo, 90, of Shenandoah, formerly of Vulcan Hill, Mahanoy Township, passed away peacefully Saturday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.
Born in Vulcan Hill, Mahanoy Township, Nov. 18, 1924, he was a son of the late Andrew and Catherine Samus Wargo.
He was a graduate of the former Mahanoy Township High School.
Mr. Wargo was a decorated World War II Army veteran, having served in the European Theater of Operations. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a foreman at the former Atlas Powder Co., Reynolds, for 47 years.
On Dec. 25, 1949 in the former St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah, he married his wife, the former Agnes R. Koszyk who survives.
Mike was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and the former St. Stanislaus Church, Shenandoah. He was also a member of the former VFW Post, Shenandoah. Mike was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies and discussing their season with friends and family.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was one sister, Mary Peel.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 65 years, are one son, Michael G. Wargo and his wife, Bettina, East Windsor, N.J.; five grandchildren, Jeff Wargo, Amy Ellsworth, Andy Wargo, Marc Wargo and Kevin Wargo; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Andrew Wargo, Bethlehem; nieces and nephews.
Religious services will be held at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Rev. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
Relatives and friends may call from 8 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah, is in charge of arrangements.
