Michael J. Elchisak, Jr., age 68, of 218 North Race Street, Shenandoah, passed away Friday night surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Tim Smith, Hamburg.
Born in Shenandoah on March 28, 1945, he was the son of the late Michael J. Elchisak, Sr. and Loretta (Soroka) Elchisak.
Mike was a 1962 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School. He then attended Penn State University and Williamsport Technical Institute.
He worked for 33 years at the former A&E Products, Ringtown, first as a mold maker and then as the tool and die shop manager. He is the holder of several U.S. patents. He was especially proud of creating a child-safe sizer tab for hangers to prevent a choking hazard for children.
Mr. Elchisak was a former member of St. Michaels Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Shenandoah.
Surviving are one son, Michael J. Elchisak, III and his wife Michele, Shenandoah Heights, two daughters, Holly, wife of Tim Smith, Hamburg and Heather, wife of Tom Kowalick, Shenandoah; seven grandchildren, Alexander and John Elchisak, Genevieve and Anastasia Smith, Michael P. Elchisak, Kat and Brian Quick; his companion, Vonda DeGregor, Shenandoah; two sisters, Mary, wife of Dr. John Reinhardt, Tafton and Sonya Elchisak, Shenandoah; nieces and nephews.
Other special people in his life included Christine and John Floyd, Patsy and Vince Ryan, and Eileen Wylonis.
Religious and Parastas services will be held Wednesday 11:00 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin Street, Shenandoah. Msgr. Myron Grabowsky will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Michaels Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, or Hospice of Central Pennsylvania.
Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
