Obituary

Lucille A. (Segal) Thomas, 47, of Sinking Spring formerly of Shenandoah, passed away Saturday, December 28, at Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia.

Born on January 1, 1966 in Pottsville, she was the daughter of Donald E. and Anna Marie (Kurlowicz) Segal of Shenandoah.

She was a graduate of the former Cardinal Brennan High School, Ashland and earned both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Psychology from Kutztown University.

Luci was the personification of outgoing, easily lighting up any room that she entered. Her infectious smile, always followed by a huge warm hug, was her personal calling card. Her career path was dedicated to the service of others, helping the community she lived in through her work at the United Way of Berks County, and most recently, Olivet Boys and Girls Club. She was actively involved in her church, teaching Religious Education at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in West Lawn PA, and her childrens school, participating in the PTO. Because of her earlier cancer diagnosis, she became a committed advocate for other victims, enriching their lives both physically and emotionally. Luci touched the lives of thousands of people in her community and beyond, leaving them all with wonderful memories.

Preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents, Felix and Nellie Segal; maternal grandparents, Leonard and Marie Kurlowicz and one aunt, Lenore Kurlowicz.

In addition to her parents, Donald E. and Anna Marie Segal, Shenandoah, she is survived by her loving husband of 22 years William, her children Christopher, 17, and twins Kate, and Andrew, 13. She is also survived by her sister Donna, wife of Todd Holmes, Fleetville, sister Arlene, wife of Gene Zelinsky, Ringtown, her aunt Marci Kurlowicz, New York, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Dorothy Thomas, Reading, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves behind hundreds of friends who will miss her dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00 AM in St. Casimir Church, 229 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah, PA 17976. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian will officiate. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in St. Casimir Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Casimir Church, Shenandoah.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Thomas Children Education Fund, c/o Wells Fargo Bank, 10 Parkside Ave., Shillington, PA 19607.
