Lonna L. (Malafarina) Swantek, 76 of Morea passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street, Pottsville. Born at the former Ashland State Hospital, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Margaret (Shields) Malafarina. She was a 1965 graduate of the former Ashland High School. Lonna was first employed in the garment industry having worked at the former Model Garment, Frackville and then at the former Ashland Shirt Factory. She retired from the former Anthony's Supermarket, Frackville. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Frackville and UNITE Garment Workers' Union. Surviving are her husband of twenty-three years, Thomas J. Swantek; one son, D.J. Mallams of Gordon; two brothers, Roy Malafarina of Mt. Carmel and Rick Mills of Fountain Springs; two sisters, Mary Wagner of Harrisburg and Margaret Schaffer of Locustdale; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents, are her son, Kurt Mallams and her sister, Linda Brown. Religious services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 10:00 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 South Jardin Street, Shenandoah. Pastor Susan Hocking of the Simpson United Methodist Church, Gordon will officiate. Interment will follow in Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A visitation will be held on Friday morning from 8:00 am until 10:00 am at the funeral home. Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah is in care of the arrangements.
