Obituary

Leonard J. "Lenny" Tomchick Sr., 86, of Shenandoah, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at his residence with his family by his side.

Born in Shenandoah, May 25, 1928, he was a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Sahutsky Tomchick.

He was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah, and Packard Electrical School, Bristol.

Mr. Tomchick was a decorated World War II Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

Earlier, Lenny was employed at the former Columbia Brewery, Shenandoah, and he later retired as the manager of Brewer's Outlet, Reading.

On April 28, 1957, he married his wife, the former Margaret B. Anisczyk, who survives.

Lenny was a member of Divine Mercy Roman Catholic Parish, Shenandoah, and a member of the former St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Shenandoah Heights Amvets Post 116 and the Shenandoah Heights Fire Company.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was a sister, Florence Michalowski.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 57 years, Margaret, are a son, Leonard Tomchick Jr. and his wife, Josephine, Dallastown; two grandchildren, Amy Newcomer and her husband, Corey, York, and Joseph Tomchick and his wife, Ashley, York; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Novatka and her husband, Thomas, Sterling Park, Va., and Rose Yakimovich, Shenandoah; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the sacred worship site of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Casimir Church, 229 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Saint Casimir Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
