Obituary

Leona E. Ratomski, 90, formerly of Shenandoah, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022, at AuthoraCare Hospice House, Burlington, North Carolina. Born May 28, 1932, in Shenandoah, she was a daughter of the late Karol and Della (Bolinsky) Ratomski. She was a 1951 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah. Early in her life, Leona worked for several years in Philadelphia, having returned home to help her mother. She was then employed in the local Shenandoah garment industry. She was last employed and retired as a CNA from the former Trinity Mission Nursing Home, Shenandoah Heights. Leona was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, formerly St. Casimir's Church, the Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens, and the Columbia Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary, all of Shenandoah. Leona enjoyed music and played the piano. In October 2021, as her health began to decline, she moved to the home of her lifelong friend, Elizabeth "Betty" Piampi Androshick, in Englewood, Florida, with the help and assistance of Betty's daughter and son-in-law, Marisa and Pete Barusic. She enjoyed Florida, living for one year before being displaced in September 2022 due to the direct hit of Hurricane Ian in Englewood, at which point she moved to North Carolina to live with Pete, Marisa and her "bonus" family. In October 2022, as she was rapidly declining, she was placed under hospice care and later moved to AuthoraCare Hospice House where she passed away on November 27, 2022. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her twin brother, Leonard Ratomski, and her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Jean Ratomski. Surviving are her caretakers, her bonus sister, Betty Piampi Androshick, of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Pete and Marisa Barusic, of Oak Ridge, North Carolina. Also surviving are cousins, Connie and Jim Bolinsky, both of Beaver Twp., Columbia County, and Mary Ann Lorenzi, of Hazleton; Sister Jeanette Maria, IHM, at Camilla Hall, Malvern; Janet Stack, of Philadelphia; and additional cousins. Religious services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, with the Rev. Zachary Navit officiating.
