Obituary

Leona C. (Borowicz) Cieslukowski Ciesluk, 94, formerly of West Lloyd Street, Shenandoah, passed away peacefully Saturday night at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community.

Born in Shenandoah, July 29, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Karl and Mary (Bonislawski) Borowicz.

She was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School.

Leona along with her family were proprietors and operators of the former Tavern on West Lloyd Street in Shenandoah. Prior to her retirement, she was a cashier in the cafeteria for the Shenandoah Valley School District.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and was a lifelong member of St. Casimir Church. She was proud of her Polish heritage and was a talented and dedicated singer. She was a member of St. Cecelia's Choir of St. Casimir Church, Shenandoah, and the Schuylkill County Polish Choraliers. Leona was also a member of the Polka Belles, the Polish Ladies Social Club and Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens. She was active in the annual Shenandoah Heritage Day activities as well.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Louis P. Ciesluk, on January 31, 1998; three sisters, Dorothy Barasha, Mary Karas and Millie Kruczek.

Surviving are nieces and nephews and their families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Casimir Church, 229 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah, the sacred worship site of Divine Mercy Parish with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring, Reading. A calling hour will be held from 9 until 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Casimir Church.
