Kathleen A. Kathy (Finneran) Rooney, age 59 of 15 Molnar Lane, Ringtown and a former resident of Shenandoah passed away early Saturday morning at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Shenandoah on August 23, 1952 she was the daughter of Dorothy (Nalipi) Finneran of Shenandoah and the late John Swallow Finneran.
She was a 1970 graduate of the former Cardinal Brennan High School, Fountain Springs.
Kathy had a long career in banking, she first worked at the former Union National Bank, Shenandoah presently the M&T Bank where she was a lead teller; she then worked for the Miners Bank Corporate Office in Minersville and was currently employed at Wells Fargo, Frackville. As a result of this profession, Kathy attended various banking and lending seminars, receiving various certifications. In addition, she held affiliations with various professional banking organizations.
She was an active member of the Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah where she served as a former treasurer and was a dedicated volunteer of the annual parish festival and other fundraising activities. Kathy was a member and former officer of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation of Shenandoah, the former Cardinal Brennan Mothers Guild of Fountain Springs and the Shenandoah CYO. In addition, she was a member of the Shenandoah Fish and Game Association of Zion Grove.
Kathy was proud of her Irish heritage with her many trips with family and friends to Notre Dame and Ireland. She was selflessly devoted to her family; her deep love was evident in her sacrifices to them.
Preceding her in death in addition to her father were two aunts, Mary Petroshonis and Mary Finneran Tracey; two uncles, Andrew Nalipi and William Finneran.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband Michael Mick Rooney with whom on July 28, 2012, her date of death were married thirty-nine years; three sons, Michael Rooney and his wife Mary, Chesapeake Beach, MD; Christopher Rooney and his wife Kendra of Palo Alto and Thomas Rooney and his wife Danielle of Frackville; four beloved and cherished grandchildren, Isabella and Brady Rooney of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Brogan and Finley Rooney of Palo Alto; a brother, John Finneran and his wife Suzanne of Pottsville; three uncles, Leonard Petroshonis of Shenandoah; Joseph Finneran of Lancaster and George Nalipi of South Carolina; nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 am from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10:30 am in Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Annunciation BVM Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
Relatives and friends may call Monday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah is in charge of the arrangements.
