Katherine M. "Kitty" (Maksimik) Breznik, 86, of Shenandoah, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by her loving sons.
Kitty was the loving and devoted wife of Leo Breznik Sr. They celebrated 50 years of marriage together before his passing in 2006.
Born April 9, 1936, in Shenandoah, she was a daughter of the late Stanley P. Maksimik (Moxie) Jr. and Catherine (Chatcavage) Maksimik.
Kitty was a graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School.
Prior to her retirement, Kitty was a self-employed mail contractor with the United States Postal Service. Earlier in life, she worked for the former Purolator Products, Pattersonville; the former General Cigar Co., Mahanoy City; and King Kruller Donut Shop in Shenandoah.
Kitty was active in local Democratic politics, along with her husband, and served as a member of the Shenandoah Valley school board. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and the former Saint Stanislaus Parish, both of Shenandoah. She was also a member of the former Polish Ladies Social Club.
Kitty was a hunter, enjoyed playing bingo and was a big fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. She looked forward to the Super Bowl.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and husband were two sisters, an infant, Dianna Maksimik and Doris Bereschak.
Surviving are three sons, Atty. Leo Breznik and his wife, Linda, of Shenandoah Heights, Frank Breznik and his wife, Lisa, of Shenandoah, and Michael Breznik and his wife, Cheryl, of Frackville; three grandchildren, Kayla Nitolo, of Shenandoah, Hunter Breznik, of Pittsburgh, and Brandon Breznik, of Frackville; and three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lylah and Aleah Nitolo, all of Shenandoah. Also surviving are brothers, Daniel and Stanley Maksimik, both of Shenandoah Heights; one sister Patricia O'Neill of Las Vegas; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in Divine Mercy Church, 232 W. Cherry St., Shenandoah, with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, as the celebrant. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
