Sgt. John 'Johnny' J. McGauley,42 of Shenandoah, PA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024. Born in New Brunswick, NJ on October 6th, 1981, he was the son of Delmy E. McGauley and the late Michael T. McGauley.
A highly decorated Veteran, Johnny was a medic in the PA army national guard. John's decorations include army commendation medal, army achievement medal, Meritorious unit commendation, army good conduct medal, army reserve components achievement medal, national defense service medal, global war on terrorism medal, global war on terrorism expeditionary medal, and more.
Johnny worked as a Veterans Service Officer with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and enjoyed his involvement with other organizations including the American Legion, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Pulaski Lodge #216, F&AM and the A.P. Damato Medal of Honor Post 792 of Shenandoah. He also enjoyed celebrating his Irish and Salvadoran heritage through various organizations and events.
Johnny was most happy spending time with other veterans, his "brothers" who he served with in Iraq and Kuwait. John's hobbies included reading, traveling, playing games online with friends, and watching the Philadelphia Eagles.
Surviving are his mother Delmy, of Shenandoah, sister Joanna (Christian) of Philadelphia, Aunts Nelly de Burgos and Lorena de Herrera (Mauricio) of San Salvador E.S., and Lucy Murray of Florida, along with numerous McGauley and Flores cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday July 2nd, at the Divine Mercy Church, 232 West Cherry Street, Shenandoah concelebrated by Monsignor John Grabish and Reverend Robert J. Potts. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation beginning at 9:30am at the Divine Mercy church prior to mass.
Sgt. Johnny will be laid to rest following military honors on Friday, July 5th, at 10 am at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Disabled American Veterans at dav.org. in memory of Johnny.
