Obituary

John J. "Jack" Karpovich, Sr., 96 of Shenandoah Heights passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Ridgeview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Shenandoah Heights. Born in Shenandoah on May 14, 1925, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Kaminski) Karpovich. Jack attended the former Saint George Elementary School and was a graduate of the former J.W. Copper High School, both of Shenandoah. Earlier in life, he worked in the local coal industry for fifteen years. Prior to his retirement he was a Jewel Tea Company salesman for over twenty-five years. On February 26, 1949 in the former Saint Canicus Church, Mahanoy City, he married the former Mary T. Trusky who preceded him in death on February 4, 2019. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah. Jack was a devout and active member of the former St. George Church, Shenandoah, where he was a eucharistic minister, lector, weekly bingo caller, and the sacristan having prepared for the Masses. He always kept the church looking its finest. Jack was a dedicated worker for all parish activities and was an integral part of the church. Jack was often seen with his late wife Mary eating and socializing at the Park Restaurant, Shenandoah. He most enjoyed being in the company of his family. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents and wife were his son, John J. "Jackie" Karpovich, Jr. on October 15, 2020; five brothers, Leonard, Joseph, Leon, Thomas and Ronald Karpovich and two sisters, Arlene and Anna Mae Karpovich. Surviving are his son, Thomas J. Karpovich and his wife Ann of Morea; four grandchildren, Lisa Linderman and her husband Will, Leon Karpovich and his companion Jessica, Maggie Riggins and her husband Brett, and Jacquelyn Olsen and her husband Chris; five great-grandchildren, Lexie, Tabitha, Raquelle, Grant and Addie; his daughter-in-law, Dianne Bona of Vienna, Virginia; three brothers, Henry Karr of Lakeland, Florida, Daniel Karpovich of Shenandoah and Robert Karpovich and his wife Hazel of Dothan, Alabama; two sisters, Regina Karpovich of Shenandoah and Sister Marilyn Karpovich, a member of the Sisters of St. Casimir of Chicago, Illinois and now living in Lemont, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Georgianna Karpovich of Doylestown and Ruth Karpovich of Lady Lake, Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 10:00 am in Divine Mercy Church, 232 West Cherry Street, Shenandoah with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A viewing will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until 10:00 am in Divine Mercy Church.
