John F. Jack Dando, age 87 passed away Saturday in Pottsville.
Born in Girardville on August 17, 1925, he was a son of the late William and Catherine (Seaner) Dando and husband of the late Mary (Neary) Dando.
He graduated from the former Girardville High School.
Jack was a decorated World War II Navy Veteran having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. His decorations and citations include the American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for Boeing Aircraft Company, Philadelphia.
John resided for the past 55 years in Chester where he was a member of St. Catherine Drexel Roman Catholic Church and is a current member of Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents and wife, Mary in 2011 is a sister, Dorothy.
Surviving are a brother, William Dando of Girardville, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Interment with military honorswill follow in St. Josephs Cemetery, Fountain Springs.
Relatives and friends may call at the church Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis TN 38148-0142.
Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah is in charge of the arrangements.
