John P. Dopkin, 96, a lifelong resident of Shenandoah, passed away on Friday morning.
Born in Shenandoah, December 27, 1921, he was a son of the late Simon and Agnes Lipsky Dopkin.
John was a decorated World War II Army veteran, having served in Pacific Theater of Operations.
Prior to his retirement, he was a supervisor at the former Purolator Products, Pattersonville.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and the former St. George Church. Earlier in life, he excelled in baseball, having been a left-handed pitcher for many minor league teams. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. John was a loving father, poppy and uncle.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Regina B. Bushek, on November 23, 2009; a son, Robert Dopkin; many brothers and sisters.
Surviving are two sons, John Dopkin and his wife, Gail, and James Dopkin; a daughter, Diane Cohen and her husband, Barry; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Divine Mercy Church, 232 W. Cherry St., Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will be held from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Divine Mercy Church.
Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
