Obituary

John Anthony Denchy passed away Monday, April 21 at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community with family by his side.

Born in Shenandoah, June 23, 1946, John was a son of the late George John And Kathryn Marie Shemansky Denchy.

He was a graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School.

John was a decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in the 301 Army Security Agency Battalion stationed in Chitose, Japan. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

On May 4, 1989 he married the former Barbara A. Botham who survives.

John was retired from Jeld-Wen, Ringtown where he worked as a glass line finisher. Prior to that, he worked as a certified auto mechanic and major appliance repairman.

He was a member of St. George Church, Shenandoah.

Before becoming ill, John enjoyed gardening and trips to the beach with his family. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, but especially loved routing for the Phillies with his son Johnny .

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were three sisters, Mary Christine Denchy, Catherine Black and Regina Denchy.

Surviving in addition to his wife of almost 25 years are one son, John S. Denchy and his wife Candice, Barnesville; four daughters, Kathleen Brown and her husband Chris, Pine Grove, Angela M. Kerstetter and her husband Robert, Marion Heights, Jessica L. Sajone and her husband Daniel, Shenandoah and Vanessa E. Papa and her husband Joseph, Shenandoah; four grandsons, Nicholas, Alexander, Jacob and Michael; five granddaughters, Juliet, Kayla, Emily, Jillian and Jocelyn; two brothers, Joseph Denchy and his wife Roseanna, Florida and George Denchy and his wife Marion, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.

Prayer and scripture services will be held Thursday, 12:00 Noon at the First United Methodist Church, 38 East Oak St., Shenandoah. Rev. Christopher C. Wollyung will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church Thursday from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon. There will be no calling hours or services from the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy can be made in Johns name to the First United Methodist Church, 38 East Oak St., Shenandoah, PA 17976.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah is in charge of the arrangements.
