Obituary

John J. "Chip" Capiga Jr., 79, of Shenandoah Heights passed away Tuesday evening at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Shenandoah, March 6, 1931, he was a son of the late John J. Sr. and Stella Mae Foultz Capiga.

John was a member of First United Methodist Church and Disabled American Veterans, both of Shenandoah.

He was a 1948 graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School.

Mr. Capiga was a decorated veteran of the Korean War.

He was a retired highway inspector, having worked for the State of Pennsylvania. He later worked at the former Metropolitan Mirror and Glass Co., Frackville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Alice J. Smith, on Dec. 19, 2006; a son, John J. Capiga, August 1982.

Surviving are a son, James J. Capiga, at home; a daughter, Karen, wife of John M. Schropp, Shenandoah Heights; a brother, Clarence Capiga, Mahanoy City; four grandchildren, John S. Schropp, Shenandoah Heights, Allison, wife of Robert Loosli, Whitehall, Carlyann Capiga, Hazleton, and Ashley Capiga, Shenandoah Heights; nieces and nephews.

Religious services with military honors will be private and held at the convenience of the family from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. The Rev. Brunilda Martinez of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
