John Joseph Burns Jr., 64, of 116 N. Ferguson St., Shenandoah, passed away Thursday at his residence.
Born in Shenandoah, Sept. 15, 1949, he was a son of the late John J. Sr. and Antoinette M. "Tushie" Meinkiewicz Burns.
He was a graduate of the final graduating class of Shenandoah Catholic High School and he attended Mansfield University.
John was a decorated Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were one brother, David Burns; and one sister, Mary Ann Burns.
Surviving are his brother, Michael A. Burns and his wife, Patricia, Shenandoah; two sisters, Rose M. Boxter, Pottsville, and Margaret "Peggy" Jablonski, Shenandoah; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Prayer and scripture services will be held at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. The Rev. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at 3 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
Relatives and friends may call from noon until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
