Obituary

Joan Ann M. (Valetske) Wallace, was called to her heavenly home on April 6th, 2025, surrounded by her family after a long battle with leukemia. Joni was born at home in Shenandoah on November 11th, 1936, along with a twin brother, Charles, to her parents, the late Charles and Mary (Denchy) Valetske. She was a 1954 graduate of the former JW Cooper High School, and married Joseph Wallace on November 15th 1958 at St. George's Church. She was a member of the St. George Choir and St. Cecilia Chior. Joni was chosen the first Miss Shenandoah in 1955. Joni worked as a secretary for Bolich Insurance Agency, Goodyear and the Evening Herald.  She was treasurer for 15 years with the Shenandoah Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, Joni was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph, on December 5th, 2022, and a sister Virginia Jurewicz. She is survived by a son, Joseph Wallace; daughters Susan Whitehair and her significant other, Thomas Epp and Lynn, wife of Joseph Gallo. Grandchildren, Joel Wallace; Ty Whitehair; Brielle Whitehair; Kaitlyn Quirk, RN; John Gallo and Joseph Gallo. Great grandchildren, Olivia and Xander Schreppel also survive, as does her twin brother, Charles Valetske. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025 at the Walukiewicz Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 South Jardin Street, Shenandoah. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9-10 AM at the funeral home prior to the service. Joni will be laid to rest alongside her husband Joe at the Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery following the service.
