Joan Romanot, 90, formerly of South Ferguson Street, Shenandoah, passed away Wednesday at Shenandoah Senior Living Community where she resided.

Born in London, England, May 18, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Emma Munday.

Joan was a veteran of World War II having served three years in the British Army Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. She was a recipient of the Battle of Britain Medal and the War Medal Oak Leaf.

In 1945, Joan married John P. Romanot, a native of Shenandoah, who was serving in the Army. In 1950, they left England with their two young sons, John Jr. and Gary, and moved to Shenandoah.

Part of Joan's work history involved working as presser at the Alma Dress factory, a nurse's aide at Schuylkill Haven Nursing Home and several years at Harris's Bakery. During the late '60s and early '70s, Joan and her family also cared for more than 90 newborn babies until they were able to be placed for adoption.

Joan enjoyed traveling, and returned many times to England to visit family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bingo and trips to the casinos in Atlantic City. She often met her friends for breakfast each morning at Vernalis Restaurant.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1970; two grandchildren, Susan Romanot and Gary Romanot, both of Girardville; two brothers, Edward and Frank, England.

Surviving are sons, John, husband of Judy, Bloomsburg area, Gary, husband of Rita, Girardville, Paul, Mahoning Township, David, Shenandoah Heights, and Robert, husband of Nancy, Shenandoah Heights; four grandchildren, John Romanot, husband of Heather, Mahoning Township, Jodi, wife of Christopher Boone, Cape Coral, Fla., Brenda Romanot and fiance, Kreg Cremer, Camp Hill, and Ashley, wife of Mark Palubinsky, Shenandoah Heights; five great-grandchildren, Nathan, Zachary and Alexandra, children of John and Heather Romanot, Abigail, daughter of Jodi and Christopher Boone, and Mason, son of Ashley and Mark Palubinsky. In addition, she is survived by nieces and nephews living in England, Australia and the United States.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
