Obituary

Joan R. (Barowski) Perrong, age 74, a former Shenandoah businesswoman passed away Tuesday morning at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Born in Shenandoah on November 12, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Julius and Elsie (Dombrowski) Barowski.

She was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.

Joan was the proprietor of the former Jay-Bar, Shenandoah until her retirement in 1992.

As a businesswoman, Joan was civically involved in the community. She was a member of the Planning Commission, the Citizens Advisory Committee and a former treasurer of the Hud Community Development Block Grant all for the Borough of Shenandoah. She was a member of the Shenandoah Valley PTA, Task Force and a member of the S.V. School District Long Range Planning Advisory Board and a board member of the Shenandoah Area Free Public Library.

In support of her sons, she held past offices in Midget Football and the Babe Ruth Baseball League and was a volunteer for the Shenandoah Little League She was also a member of St. Casimir Church and the Polish Ladies Social Club, both of Shenandoah.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband Leo F. Perrong who died on December 14, 1981 and an infant son at birth.

Surviving are three sons, Dean Perrong and his wife Karen, Shenandoah; Craig Perrong and his wife, Elizabeth Beth , Ringtown and Scott Perrong and his wife Jessica, Shenandoah; four grandchildren, Leo Perrong, Jason Burke, Lloyd George and Kayla Perrong; two brothers, Edward Barowski and his wife Roberta, Shenandoah Heights and Robert Barowski, Mahanoy City; one sister, Dorothy Mattes, Ringtown; nieces, nephews, cousins and her faithful Bichon Yorkie, Chewy .

Prayer and scripture services will be held Saturday, 10:00 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 8:30 am to 10:00 am.
