Jeanne M. (Matakonis) Waiksnoris, RN, age 83 of West Coal Street, Shenandoah passed away Thursday morning at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Shenandoah on October 15, 1929 she was a daughter of the late Simon and Helen (Chapley) Matakonis.

She was a 1947 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah and the former Ashland State Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1950.

Prior to her retirement, she worked for the former Locust Mt. State Hospital, Shenandoah Heights and the former St. Josephs Satellite, Shenandoah.

Jeanne was a member of St. George Church, the Glovers Hill Athletic Club Ladies Auxiliary both of Shenandoah and the Catholic Nurses Guild, North Schuylkill Chapter.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband, Joseph J. Waiksnoris; two brothers, Albert and Edward Matakonis; and one sister, Marianne Moyer.

Surviving are one son Joseph Waiksnoris and his wife Connie of Niskayuna, NY; two daughters Linda, wife of Gary Roshoe of Ringtown and JoAnn Waiksnoris of Voorhees, NJ; four grandchildren Krista and Pamela Roshoe and Jonathan and Kelly Waiksnoris; three sisters, Evelyn Saner of Shenandoah, Florence DelViscio of Lindenwold, NJ and Dorothy Kline of Philadelphia; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 AM from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 AM in Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. There will be no calling hours Sunday evening.
