Helen Aponick Zancusky, 96, of Shenandoah Heights, passed away peacefully early Friday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital Hospice Center, 17th Street, Allentown.
Born in Shenandoah, July 7, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Alexandria "Alice" Seroka Aponick.
Helen was educated in the Shenandoah area schools.
On July 27, 1947, at Mount Alvernia, Reading, she married Albin "Al" Zancusky, who preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 2004.
She was a retired garment worker, having worked in the local garment industry. She was a member of ILGWU.
Helen was a devout member of Divine Mercy Roman Catholic Parish, Shenandoah, and the former Saint Casimir Parish, Shenandoah.
She was a loving mother and best friend to her daughter, Joan. They thoroughly enjoyed traveling, dining out, trips to casinos with friends and visiting family. Helen was a dear aunt to her nieces and nephews. Above all, her devotion to God was evident through the practice of her faith, especially in attending morning Mass.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, were five brothers, Walter, Joseph, Peter, Paul and Wassil Aponick; and three sisters, Mary Jachimowicz, Elizabeth Nahas and infant, Anna Aponick.
Surviving, in addition to her daughter, Joan C. Zancusky, RN, at home, are nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Divine Mercy Parish Sacred Worship site, St. Casimir Church, 229 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Divine Mercy Parish Memorial Fund, 108 W. Cherry St., Shenandoah, PA 17976.
