Helen Sippie, age 89 passed away Sunday evening at her daughters home in Frackville. She resided most of her life on East Mahanoy Street, Mahanoy City.
Born in Mahanoy City on January 17, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Dominick and Katherine (Alansky) Svinkunas.
She attended the former St. Josephs Lithuanian School and was a 1942 graduate of Mahanoy City High School.
Helen was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City.
Mrs. Sippie retired as the Cafeteria Supervisor for the Mahanoy Area School District. She began her career as a server when the school lunch program began. She was well known for her cooking ability both at school and at home.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband, Daniel J. Sippie, Sr. on August 3, 1991; one brother, Joseph Red Svinkunas and one sister, Connie Schappe.
Surviving are her children, Dan Sippie, Denver, PA, Kathy Sippie, Frackville and Helayne Titus and her husband Randy, Mahanoy City and her sweethearts, Adason and Siara, her grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She also held a special place in her heart for Cheryl Muscavage, Greg Parfitt, Maureen Broderick and her lifelong friend, Peggy Owens.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church, 600 W. Mahanoy St., Mahanoy City. Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher, Pastor will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Josephs Cemetery, Mahanoy Township.
Relatives and friends may call Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Hillside SPCA, PO Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901.
Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah is in charge of the arrangements.
