Geraldine J. "Gerri" Oleksick, 82, of Frackville, and a former Shenandoah businesswoman, passed away suddenly Friday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.
Born in Numidia, Dec. 26, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Filanowski Malkoskie.
She was a graduate of the former Locust Township High School.
On April 12, 1959, at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Frackville, she married John "Jack" Oleksick, who survives her.
Gerri was the former proprietor of Gerri's Flower Shop, Shenandoah.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. James 1029, both of Frackville. She greatly enjoyed traveling with her family, cooking and gardening.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was a brother, Norman Malkoskie.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 55 years, are a son, Dr. Joseph J. Oleksick Lexon and his wife, Meta, Bellefonte; a daughter, Elaine M. Oleksick, Nashville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Sarah and Rachel Lexon; two brothers, Richard Malkoskie, Alberta, Ala., and Harry Markel, Mount Carmel; two sisters, Romaine Bognar, Nescopeck, and Doris Mensch, Kodiak, Alaska; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Frackville. The Rev. Robert T. Finlan, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Frackville. Relatives and friends may call from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
