“Geri” (Dick) Shumski

Geraldine A. "Geri" (Dick) Shumski, 77, of Shenandoah, passed away Sunday at her residence.
Born in Shenandoah, Sept. 19, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Stasia (Kutchinsky) Dick.
Geri was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah, and the Reading Hospital School of Radiology.
She was employed as an X-ray technician at the former Ashland State Hospital, Fountain Springs, until its closing.
Geri was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, formerly St. Casimir Church, Shenandoah. She was president of the St. Casimir Ladies Guild, where she organized and headed many fundraising activities for the benefit of the parish. She was also a member and past president of the Polish American Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, being greatly involved in fundraising events, especially the annual block party bazaar.
Caring for her family was of most importance to her. Geri was a proud great-grandmother. She was also a devout great-aunt to her great-nephews; she watched and cared for them throughout the years and enjoyed attending their many school, sporting and family activities.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Eugene "Shummer" Shumski, in 1993; a daughter, Melanie.
Surviving are a son, Peter Shumski, Shenandoah; a sister, Patricia Muclada, Frackville; a granddaughter, Ashley Mincavage and her husband, Eric, Chambersburg; a great-granddaughter, Avery Mincavage; a nephew, Gary Muclada and his wife, Linda, Frackville; a niece, Gail McCole and her husband, Frank, Frackville; five grandnephews, Anthony & Michael Muclada and Ian, Tyler & Chase McCole; additional nephews and nieces, cousins and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, Shenandoah, the sacred worship site of Divine Mercy Parish. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Relatives and friends may call from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
