Frank L. "Fritz" Kovalesky, 86, formerly of East Centre Street, Shenandoah, passed away peacefully Friday morning at Ridgeview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Shenandoah Heights.
Born in Shenandoah, March 6, 1930, he was a son of the late Frank Kovalesky and Anna Urban Wasko Kovalesky.
Fritz was a decorated Army veteran of the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal and the Occupation Medal of Japan.
Prior to his retirement he worked for the former Purolator Products, Pattersonville, and Ateeco Inc., Mrs. T's Pierogies, Shenandoah.
Fritz was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, formerly Annunciation BVM Church, and VFW Post, Ashland. He was a former commander of the AMVETS Post, Shenandoah, and was a life member of the DAV, Shenandoah.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were a brother, Albert Wasko; a sister, Jean Milewski; a nephew, Jerry Milewski.
Surviving are a sister, Caroline Machulsky, Pottsville, and a former resident of Shenandoah; niece and caregiver, Carole Field and her husband, Tom, Pottsville; a nephew, Joseph M. Machulsky and his wife, Mary Ann, Harrisburg; an additional niece, Jean Gallo, Ashland; great-nieces and -nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Divine Mercy Church, Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
