Obituary

Eugene G. Kanousky, age 91 formerly of Ohio Ave., Shenandoah Heights, passed away peacefully Saturday with his daughter by his side at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community.

Born in Shenandoah on September 9, 1922 he was a son of the late Stanley and Helen Kanousky.

Mr. Kanousky was a decorated World War II Army Veteran. His decorations include the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with six bronze star and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

Gene was a retired foreman having worked for many years for the former Shenandoah Spring and Muffler Shop.

He was a member of St. Georges Church, Shenandoah, the Shenandoah Heights Amvets Post, the Shenandoah Heights Fire Company and the Shenandoah Amvets.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife, Helen P. (Pitcavage) Kanousky on May 18, 2010; two brothers, Albert and Edward Kanousky; four sisters, Valere Driza, Blanche Paul, Jennie Menke Menkiewicz and Rosemary Chesla.

Surviving are his daughter Joanne, wife of Jim McAndrew, Ashland; two grandchildren Thomas TJ McAndrew and his wife Marianne, Ashland and Kimberly, wife of Greg Parker, Rogers, Arkansas; four great-grandchildren Taylor and Mackenzie McAndrew and Cameron and Ian Parker; nieces nephews and cousins.

Prayer and scripture services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at 11:30 am in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:00 am until time of services. There will be no calling hours Wednesday evening.
