Obituary

Elizabeth T. "Betty" (Ponisciak) Russial, 90, of Primrose, passed away peacefully Saturday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Born in Mahanoy City, Feb. 12, 1925, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Cisarik Ponisciak.

She attended parochial grade school in Mahanoy City and graduated from Mahanoy City Public High School.

After graduating from high school, she worked for the Signal Corp., Philadelphia, before marrying her husband, Joseph Russial, who preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2005. She raised six sons in Primrose.

She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Minersville, and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.

Betty was deeply religious and proud of her Slovak heritage. She enjoyed spending time with her children, their spouses and her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and her husband, were a son, James Russial; and nine brothers and sisters, Joseph P. Ponisciak, Anna M. Ponisciak, Mary Monick, Katherine Karabinos, the Rev. Stephen Ponisciak, the Rev. Cyril Ponisciak, John Ponisciak, Andrew Ponisciak and George Ponisciak.

Surviving are five sons, Joseph, John, Peter, Thomas and Stephen; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Jordan, Jonathan, Melinda and Martina; a sister, Dorothy Camelliri; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 W. Sunbury St., Minersville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday in St. Michael the Archangel Church, Minersville. The Rev. Adam C. Sedar, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Michael the Archangel Church Memorial Fund, 539 Sunbury St., Minersville, PA 17954.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
