Edward J. Risko, 77 of Shenandoah, passed away early Friday, March 4, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem following a lengthy illness. Born in Shenandoah on September 16, 1944, he was the son of the late Joseph B. and Violet V. (Tomcavage) Risko. He was a 1962 graduate of the former J. W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah. Ed spent over 55 years working in the food prep, restaurant management, and hotel industry. In the early part of his career, Ed became a well-liked and respected chef in the Pocono area, spending many years working at Mt. Airy, Pocono Manor, and other popular resorts. He eventually returned to his hometown, utilizing his skills at local restaurants and businesses, such as Edgewood in the Pines, The Dutch Kitchen, and The Schuylkill Country Club, to name a few. Ed will be remembered as a fun, likeable guy, who loved his family and many friends. He was always ready to offer a helping hand in a home renovation project, cook something delicious for a special occasion, or care for a sick or abused animal. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Russell R. Risko, in 2002 and a nephew, Mark "Friday" Simmons, in 2015. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Donna (Brazinsky) Risko of Shenandoah; his daughter, Christine Meyer of Pittsburgh; his son, Edward Straub of Mt. Carmel; step-daughter, Sharon Wright wife of Timothy of Shenandoah; two sisters, Anne Marie McNulty of Lansdale and Virginia "Ginny" Stanziola wife of Robert of Frackville; three grandchildren, three step-grandsons, a step-great-grandson, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his beloved cat, Mitzi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 10:00 am in Divine Mercy Church, 232 West Cherry Street, Shenandoah with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A viewing will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until 10:00 am in Divine Mercy Church. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in Ed's name to the Hillside S.P.C.A. at PO Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901 or Divine Mercy Parish at 108 W. Cherry St, Shenandoah, PA 17976.
