Dorothy Steele, age 85 of West Penn St., Shenandoah passed away peacefully Friday afternoon at the home of her grandson, John J. Gantz, Ringtown.

Born in Shenandoah on November 11, 1927 she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Litweiler Steele.

Dorothy was a graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Dorothy was a retired garment worker having worked in the local garment industry.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her daughter, Sharon Steele on December 5, 2011; two brothers, George and Charles Steele; four sisters, Mary Nause, Sarah Thompson, and Mildred and Stella Wiley.

Surviving are a daughter, Ann Marie Gantz and her John P. of Shenandoah; four grandchildren, John J. Gantz and his wife Kathy of Ringtown, Paul Gantz and his wife Lynn of Pine Grove, Gloria Keck and her husband Karl of Orwigsburg and Brenda Polgrean of Lancaster; seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Scripture and prayer services will be held Thursday evening at 7:30 pm at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Rev. Christopher Wollyung will officiate. Relatives and friends may call Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
