Daniel J. Derchie Dereskiewicz, age 61 of 307 S. Ferguson St., Shenandoah passed away Monday evening at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street, Pottsville following a lengthy illness.
Born in Shenandoah on September 19, 1950 he was the son of the late Adolph and Frances (Harbaczewski) Dereskiewicz.
Dan was educated at Shenandoah Catholic High School.
He was an Air Force Veteran having served during the Vietnam era.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed in maintenance at the Schuylkill County Prison.
Dan was a former member of St. Georges Church, Shenandoah.
Derchie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was a sister, Irene Rabada.
Surviving are his companion and caregiver, Karen Zubowicz of Shenandoah; a sister, Christine Brauns of Warrington; an aunt, godchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Private graveside services with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family in Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian will officiate.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah.
