Obituary

Charles A. Scat Pitts, Jr., age 86 of Girardville passed away Thursday at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.

Born in Girardville on July 26, 1927 he was a son of the late Charles A., Sr. and Anna H. (Taunitis) Pitts.

Charlie was a 1944 graduate of the former Butler Township High School.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

Mr. Pitts worked as a heavy equipment operator for the PA Department of Transportation and served as past president of the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME).

Scat was a member of the former Zion Lutheran Church, Girardville, and was a member of the Frackville Elks Lodge, the Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge 294 of Ashland and the Ashland Good Fellowship Club. He was a life member of the American Legion Post, Girardville and the Columbia Hose Company No. 1, Shenandoah.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Frances E. Carls; two sons, Carl Pitts, PhD, Philadelphia and Kurt Pitts and his wife Elizabeth, Hometown; one daughter, Ruth Ann Withers and her husband Wayne, Orwigsburg; three grandchildren, James Withers and Samantha and Travis Pitts; three brothers, Robert Pitts, Tamaqua, William Pitts and his wife Jean, Texas and Edward Pitts and his wife Virginia, Texas; one sister, Mary Jean Sanders and her husband Marshall, Idaho; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Prayer and scripture services will be held Saturday 11:00 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Rev. Mindy Heppe will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in the United Protestant Cemetery, Girardville.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday at the funeral home from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Lebanon VA Medical Center Volunteer Services, 1700 S. Lincoln Ave., Lebanon, PA 17042.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah is in charge of the arrangements.
