Catherine M. "Kitty" Baginski, 99, of Shenandoah, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Providence Place, Pottsville. Born in Lost Creek on February 13, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Helen and Michael Martinick. Kitty was a graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School, Shenandoah Heights. On November 16, 1946 in St. Casimir Church, Shenandoah, she married John F. Bagienski who passed away on January 1, 2017. Prior to her retirement, Kitty worked as a seamstress at the former Connie Fashions in Shenandoah for twenty-one years. Earlier in life, she worked in New York City at the Biltmore Hotel during WW II; the time that she spent in the city was a great topic of conversation. Kitty was a member of both St. Michael's Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and Divine Mercy Catholic Church both in Shenandoah. She was also a member of the Polish American Fire Company Women's Auxiliary, and the Greater Shenandoah Area Citizens. She made numerous trips with the seniors to Atlantic City, playing the quarter machines and also ocean excursions to Myrtle Beach. Kitty loved creating outfits in her sewing room at home. She was chosen to portray Betsy Ross in the 1966 Shenandoah Centennial Parade on the American Flag Float. Baking cakes was also one of her favorite pastimes. Among her cherished memories were the "snow bird" trips she made to Florida. Her family will greatly miss her Christmas Eve "Holy Supper" Ukrainian dinner. In her short stay at Providence Place, she enjoyed greeting guests in the lobby. Kitty was the longest surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her son, John M. Bagienski of Leesburg, Florida; two daughters, Janet Baginski (Robert Zaretskie Sr.) of Frackville and MariLynn Bagienski of Barnesville; one grandson, Robert Zaretskie Jr. and his wife Jessica of Lake Wynonah, Auburn; a great grandson, Blaize Zaretskie; nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
