Obituary

Caroline R. (Wasko) Machulsky, 99, formerly of Shenandoah and Pottsville, passed away peacefully Friday night at Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Schuylkill Haven.

Born in Shenandoah, Nov. 16, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Adam Wasko and Anna (Urban) Wasko Kovalesky.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and the former St. George's Church, Shenandoah.

Caroline was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She devoted her life to her family. She cared greatly for her family and was especially delighted when cooking and baking for them. As her daughter and son began families of their own, she joyfully helped them in raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a woman of great faith who prayed her rosary daily.

She was married for 68 years to Joseph J. Machulsky until his death on April 20, 2007. Her husband was well known as the superintendent of the former Locust Mountain State Hospital, Shenandoah, and was also a past Recorder of Deeds for Schuylkill County.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by infant twin sons, John Joseph and Joseph John Machulsky; her great-granddaughter, Natalie Glinskas; a sister, Jean Milewski; two brothers, Albert Wasko and Frank "Fritz" Kovalesky.

Surviving are her daughter, Carole A. Field and her husband, Thomas, Seiders Hill, Pottsville; a son, Joseph M. Machulsky and his wife, Mary Ann, Harrisburg; a granddaughter, Julie; six grandsons, James, Andrew, Thomas, Jeffrey, Joseph and Michael; eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and her dear granddog, "Jill."

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, Shenandoah, the sacred worship site of Divine Mercy Parish. The Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
