Obituary

Anne Marie (Lobichusky) Hanley, 83 of Mahanoy City, passed away at Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest on Saturday, May 28, 2022. Born December 11, 1938 at the former Locust Mountain Hospital, she was the daughter of late Victor and Anna (Alansky) Lobichusky. A 1956 graduate of Mahanoy City High School, and Empire Beauty School, Pottsville she earned a Cosmetology Instructor license, which she proudly kept current. Notable for the time, she was the youngest manager for the Glemby Company, New York, as the salon manager at the Wm. B. Schleisner and Ormond department stores in Lancaster PA. On Aug 2, 1958, she married James A "Jay" Hanley in the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Mahanoy City, was a member of the former St Canicus church for almost 50 years until its closing, and currently attended St Teresa of Calcutta church. She maintained her career in Lancaster for several years before moving "back home" to Mahanoy City and always said she "loved being a full-time wife and mom." She had the distinction of becoming a first-time mother on Mother's Day 1961. She always loved fashion, designing many of her couture outfits, and was known for her elegant and stylish ensembles throughout the years. She was an excellent cook, winning Pottsville Republican recipe contests over numerous years in the 1960s and 70s. She enjoyed complex crafting and decorating, being "Martha Stewart" before Martha, and was an avid reader. She was also a very hard worker and enjoyed upkeeping her home and gardens. Anne Marie was a very devout Catholic, attending morning daily mass for many years, that once the kids were "out the door" to school, she was off to church, and chuckled when someone once asked if she had a job as a crossing guard! She participated in fitness activities for many years, beginning with 1980s aerobics, and moving onto step aerobics, Pilates, yoga, kick boxing, etc until just a few years ago, when she transitioned to "senior gym" for about a year, then COVID shutdowns got her outside walking her 10,000+ steps on nice weather days. Her 'gym friends' were very special to her! She swam laps at the Mahanoy Area pool, twice a week for many years. She took up roller blading in her 60s. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother Victor Jr., her beloved husband, Jay on Christmas Day 2016, her oldest son, Jay Jr. in December 2018, and sisters-in-law, Theresa Scherer and Jean Sherako. Anne Marie is survived by son, Michael of Harrisburg; son, Jon and his wife, Kristy, and granddaughter, Teagan of Hunt Valley, MD; daughter, Maria and her husband, Albert Wasilewski of Hookstown; daughter-in-law, Cheryl and grandchildren, Anna and Victor Hanley of Barnesville; her sister, Mary Lahouchak and brother-in-law Bill of Bethlehem. She is also survived by three nieces, Colleen Stumpo, Noreen Scherer, and Karen Unger and a nephew, Bill Lahouchak Jr.; three great-nieces and a great-nephew; her cousins who were like sisters and brothers; and her "forever friend" Sandy Tacelosky.
