Anastasia "Nellie" Hress, 98 of Mahanoy City passed away on Monday morning, April 26, 2021 at the Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Delano on May 9, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Metro and Mary (Regada) Kruika.
She was a graduate of the former Delano High School.
Nellie was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Mahanoy City, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Kateri, Mahanoy City, the Mahanoy City Women's Club and the Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens.
Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Nellie will remember her infectious smile and giving spirit.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her first husband, Louis DiBaggio in 1981; her second husband, John Hress in 1989; five brothers, Michael, John, Metro, Wassil and Peter Kruika; four sisters, Mary Hentosh and Anne, Eva and Helen Kruika.
Surviving are nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew, all who were the joy of her life.
Office of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 10:30 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah with Rev. James Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mahanoy Township. A viewing will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the funeral home. All state and federal COVID-19 guidelines and regulations will be observed; masks and social distancing will be required.
