Marguerite Oravitz FellMarguerite ‘Midge’ Oravitz Fell

Midge has deep family ties in funeral service. Her late father, Stephen F. “Doc” Oravitz, was a prominent funeral director in Shenandoah for many years. Her mother, the late Matilda “Tillie” (Alex) Oravitz was a licensed cosmetologist and worked with her father in the funeral business. In addition, her grandparents, Stephen M. and Jennie A. Oravitz, were also licensed funeral directors.

Midge is a graduate of Bloomsburg College where she received a BS in Education. She did graduate work at Pennsylvania State University and received her M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling. She was a state certified teacher having worked with the gifted and remedial reading programs.

Following in her father’s footsteps, Midge graduated Summa Cum Laude from American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, New York, NY. She earned the Mu Sigma Alpha Award, awarded on a national level to highest achieving students. She became licensed in 1977.

Midge and her husband Bill are life-long residents of Shenandoah and have one daughter Cheryl wife of Tom Tourish of Wayne, PA.

Christopher L. KowalksiChristopher L. Kowalski

Chris has been a resident of the Shenandoah and Ringtown areas for his entire life. He attended elementary school in Shenandoah and graduated from the former Cardinal Brennan Jr./Sr. High School, Fountain Springs, in 1999.

He attended Penn State University and graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2003 with a BS degree in Theoretical Mathematics with a concentration in Statistical Analysis. Chris later went on to earn an M.Ed. degree from BU in Curriculum and Instruction in 2007. He is a Pennsylvania State Certified Mathematics teacher.

In December 2008, Chris graduated first in his class from Simmons Institute of Funeral Service, Syracuse NY, with an A.O.S. Degree in Funeral Service Arts and Sciences. He received the Mu Sigma Alpha award for superior academic excellence. While at Simmons, Chris served first as vice-president and later as president of Sigma Phi Sigma. After successful completion of all the requirements set forth by the state of Pennsylvania, he became licensed as a funeral director in February 2010.

In 2009, Chris was appointed as a faculty member of Simmons Institute of Funeral Service where he currently serves as the Chemistry Instructor.
