Catherine M. “Kitty” (Hughes) Donovan, 90, of Shenandoah Heights, passed away peacefully Friday morning at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community.
Born in Shenandoah, February 2, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Frances (Zykoski) Hughes.
She was a graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School, Shenandoah Heights.
Kitty was a retired garment worker, having last been employed at the former Alma Dress Factory, Shenandoah.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, formerly Annunciation BVM Church, the Glover Hill Ladies Auxiliary, the Shenandoah Centennial Committee and the ILGWU.
Kitty enjoyed reading, bingo and watching jeopardy with her family. She was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and enjoyed the company of her cat, Barney, and her dog, Sophie.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Joseph L. Donovan on January 16, 2002; her son Joseph M. Donovan Sr. on September 24, 2017; three brothers, Edward, Bernard and Joseph Hughes; two sisters, Frances Mack and Mary Mulroy; her daughter-in-law, Ursula Donovan.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Frances Parker and her husband, Richard, Frackville; two sons, James Donovan and his wife, Kathy, Shenandoah Heights, and Edward Donovan and his wife, Diane,Shenandoah Heights; a brother, James Hughes, Shenandoah Heights; two sisters, Geraldine Flynn and her husband, Gerald, Shenandoah, and Jean Dower, Ashland; seven grandchildren, Joseph M. Donovan, Jr. and his wife, Michele, Shenandoah, James Donovan and his wife, Leah, Pottsville, Michelle Bowman and her husband, Francis, Barnesville, April Donovan, Hood River, Ore., Nicole Martus, Ringtown, Melissa Donovan, Shenandoah, and James Abicunas, Frackville; nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Divine Mercy Church, 232 W. Cherry St., Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Annunciation BVM Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Relatives and friends may call from 8 until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
