Peter Paul Sarno, Jr.

Peter Paul Sarno, Jr.Peter Paul Sarno Jr., 77, of Shenandoah Heights, passed away Friday evening at Broad Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.

Born in Shenandoah, May 13, 1940, he was a son of the late Peter Paul Sarno Sr. and Mary Mikolaitis Sarno.

He was a 1958 graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School. He earned an associate degree from Penn State University and in 1979 graduated from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, with a bachelor of arts degree.

Mr. Sarno was a decorated Air Force veteran, having served from 1958 to 1962 and was attached to the 8th Air Force, Strategic Air Command, stationed both in the United States and England prior to being honorably discharged. Locally, Pete was a member of the A.P. Damato American Legion “Medal of Honor” Post 792, Shenandoah.

He was last employed as an enforcement officer with the Office of Domestic Relations, Schuylkill County Common Pleas Court, Pottsville, from where he retired in 2009 after 16 years of service.

In 1989, he was elected to the office of West Mahanoy Township supervisor, serving as chairman of the board from 1990 until 1993.

Pete was a lifelong member of the former St. George Church, Shenandoah, and was currently a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his beloved wife, Christine Nicholas Sarno, in July 2007.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are his dear friends.

US FlagRelatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Divine Mercy Church, 230 W. Cherry St., Shenandoah. Interment with military honors will follow in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. There will be no viewing or services from the funeral home.
