Karen Lea (Labosky) Perrong, age 57 of Shenandoah passed away peacefully Friday at Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville.
Born in Pottsville on February 18, 1960 she was a daughter of Theresa (Gobster) Labosky who survives of Shenandoah and the late George Labosky who preceded her in death in 2000.
She was a 1978 graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School.
Prior to completing the practical nursing program at the Schuylkill County Area Vocational Technical School in 1984, Karen worked as a Nurses Aid at the former Ashland State Hospital. After receiving her practical nursing license in 1985 she worked as a nurse, drug and addictions counselor, and supervisor at the Locust Mountain Treatment facilities in Shenandoah Heights and at the Regional Development Corporation in Pottsville. More recently Karen worked as a physician’s office nurse for Doctors Tom Dittman, Jude Sidari, and Minaben Patel all in Hazleton.
On July 24, 1987 she married Dean “Dino” Perrong who survives.
Karen was a heaven sent free spirited angel who lived, loved, and laughed largely. She touched the hearts of all who knew her with her compassion, generosity, inspiration and smile. She loved the beach, cruising, thunder storms, dragon flies, but mostly just sunning poolside in the backyard sipping her favorite ice cold beverages with family and friends. She was also socially active with many community organizations.
She will truly be missed by all who were blessed to meet her in this life. The world was a better place with her in it. Heaven must have needed her very badly to have taken her back so quickly. Until we meet again.
Preceding her in death in addition to her father were her mother-in-law, Joan Perrong and her brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas H. Dittman.
Surviving in addition to her mother, Theresa Labosky of Shenandoah and her husband of thirty years, Dean Perrong are one son, Jason Burke and his wife, Krista of Frackville; one sister, Denise Dittman of Hazle Township; one brother, Michael Labosky and his wife Beverly of Shenandoah Heights; two brothers-in-law, Scott Perrong and his wife Jesse of Shenandoah and Craig Perrong of Ringtown; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Religious services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Monsignor Myron Grabowsky will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until 10:30 am.
