Arlene J. Murphy

Arlene J. MurphyArlene J. Dresher Murphy, 89, formerly of Weston Place, Shenandoah, passed away peacefully Tuesday at Shenandoah Senior Living Community.

Born in Weston Place, Feb. 7, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Sally Reich Dresher.

Arlene was a 1945 graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School.

She was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church, Shenandoah, and the Ringtown Senior Citizens.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Lawrence B. Murphy, October 1979; three brothers, Al, Grant and Richard Dresher; four sisters, Nettie Peters, Rebecca Novak, Ruth Roberts and Mary Dresher.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are three sons, Lawrence Murphy, Shenandoah Heights, Thomas Murphy and his wife, Paula, Catawissa, and Richard Murphy and his wife, Sandra, Shenandoah Heights; two daughters, Ann Igo and her husband, Bill, Ringtown, and Kathleen Gantz and her husband, John, Ringtown; five grandchildren, Larry Murphy, John Murphy, Jeff Murphy, Shawn Murphy and Sarah Murphy; four great-grandchildren, Gwyn, Lily, Grace and Cooper Murphy; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Religious services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. The Rev. Mindy Heppe, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fountain Springs, Ashland.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Shenandoah.
