Robert A. "Cowboy Bob" HoffmanRobert A. “Cowboy Bob” Hoffman, 80, of Ashland, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at Luther Ridge at Seiders Hill, Pottsville.

Born in Shenandoah, Sept. 16, 1935, he was a son of the late Joseph and Edna Musser Hoffman.

He was a 1953 graduate of the former Mahanoy Township High School.

US FlagMr. Hoffman was a decorated Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Sharpshooter Rifle M-1 Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Earlier Bob worked as a machine operator for the former Allied Chemical, MarLin. He retired as a security officer from RI-Corp and JMB Security, Gilberton.

He was a devout member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and the former Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah.


Bob was a talented guitar player and he enjoyed playing for his family and friends. He was proud to have participated in the Schuylkill County Senior Idol contest.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were a son, Robert J. Hoffman, on Jan. 4, and a brother, Joseph Hoffman.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Hoffman, Ashland; two grandchildren, Nicole Biscoe, Australia, and Christopher Biscoe, Ashland; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Religious services will be held at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. The Rev. Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Relatives and friends may call from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
